EDC announces 2014 International Business Scholarship winners

(OTTAWA) – May 27, 2014

Export Development Canada (EDC) today announced the recipients of its 2014 International Business Scholarships.

Every year, EDC awards 30 scholarships to post-secondary students across the country to help develop Canada’s future business leaders with an interest in building an international business career. EDC has granted 389 scholarships since the program began in 2000.

“The field of students that we had the pleasure of considering this year were, rich in domestic and international business experience, leadership accomplishments, and very well considered future plans”, said Catherine Decarie, Senior Vice-President of Human Resources and Corporate Communications. “With more than 300 high-caliber students from 71 Universities and Colleges across Canada participating, we are very pleased to report that the next generation of Canadian business leaders will be of great benefit to Canada in the years to come.”

The scholarships were awarded to the following Canadian students from 20 different institutions across seven provinces:

* Recipients of a scholarship in international business combined with environmental or sustainability studies.

Here is a small sample of the great talent within this select group of awardees:

Viktor Holicek is a student at Simon Fraser that has completed study exchanges in Taiwan and China, with an internship in Mexico in his near future. A budding entrepreneur, Viktor is starting his own distribution company with supply chain links into Asia, the UK, and potentially South America.

Rohith Manhas is also a student at Simon Fraser University that has completed an internship with the Canadian-India Business Counsel in Mumbai and is currently completing an exchange at ESCP in Paris. One of Rohith’s exchange projects earned him a Surrey Board of Trade Top 25 under 25 Award.

Deanna Mirlycourtois is a student at the University of Manitoba that has been involved in sustainable economic development projects in El Salvador, Ecuador and Brazil. Deanna is currently completing an exchange in Spain.
