Introduction to Disclosure
In 2001, EDC introduced its first formal Disclosure Policy (PDF Format). The policy strikes a balance between sharing information that enhances EDC’s public accountability, while protecting the commercially confidential information entrusted to EDC by its clients.
The policy enables EDC to make significant quantities of information available publicly on transactions at both aggregate and individual transaction levels.
EDC’s Disclosure Policy was revised in 2005 in order to implement changes made under the OECD Common Approaches on Environment and Officially Supported Export Credits, recommendations made by the Office of the Auditor General in its 2004 examination of EDC’s environmental practices, EDC’s experience with implementing the policy and feedback and input from a number of stakeholders received through public consultation.
On October 26, 2007, EDC again updated its disclosure practices and amended its Disclosure Policy following further revisions made under the OECD Common Approaches on Environment and Officially Supported Export Credits regarding the disclosure of transactions with potential environmental impacts. In keeping with these changes, EDC now provides additional environmental information on signed Category B projects bringing our practices in line with information disclosed since 2001 on signed Category A projects.
EDC and the Access to Information Act
On Sept. 1, 2007, the Federal Accountability Act came into effect, making EDC and other Crown corporations subject to the Access to Information Act.
