EDC-FITT Student Internship
The EDC and Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) student internship is offered annually to one full-time student who has successfully completed the FITTskills program. This one-year internship is designed to aid this individual by giving them the work experience necessary to complete their Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation.The candidate must be graduating at the end of the 2009/ 2010 academic year. This intern will benefit from mentoring by leading industry experts at EDC and gain valuable international trade related work experience. The selected individual will be placed on EDC’s Small Business Team and will begin the work placement in the summer of 2010 (start date is flexible). This internship has an approximate value of $35,000. Application deadline: April 21, 2010.
Check Your Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- A Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
- Currently enrolled full-time in a FITTskills program at a recognized FITT Educational Partner institution
- Completing your final courses in spring 2010
- Have an excellent academic record (minimum B grade average).
Note: employees of EDC and FITT, and dependents of employees of EDC and FITT are not eligible for this program.
Key Selection Criteria
The internship will be awarded to the eligible student based on the following:
- Demonstrated leadership and team player skills (as may be supported by letters of reference, volunteer and extra-curricular activities)
- Individual accomplishments
- International study-abroad experience
- Strength of the two Letters of Reference outlining interest in international business and/or finance, leadership potential, team player abilities and academic achievement as applicable)
- Strength of Letter of Intent
- Related work experience
- Languages written and spoken
What’s the Process?

- Submit completed Application and all supporting documents to FITT advisor at your academic institution by April 21, 2010.
- At each academic institution will screen all applications and using the selection criteria will submit one applicant to a final FITT adjudication committee (including academic, business and FITT representatives) to a final selection committee at EDC. Winners will be notified of their selection by May 10, 2010.

Transcripts:
- Official transcripts from all universities colleges or institutes attended, including the most recent academic term
Letters of Reference:
- Two references are required (each in a sealed envelope with the reference’s signature across the flap)
- One academic reference from a professor at your current academic institution is mandatory
- You may choose to submit an additional academic reference for your second letter, or a reference from a current or past employer.

Letter of Intent:
- A statement describing your area(s) of interest related to international business and your proposed academic and career path. Highlight past/current/planned activities that demonstrate your leadership potential (max. 500 words) typed 1.5 or double-spaced.
Resume:
- Maximum 3 pages typed 1.5 or double-spaced.
Citizenship:
- A clear photocopy of official document demonstrating Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada. NOTE: The copy of your official document proving citizenship or permanent resident status will not be provided to the selection committee but is to determine eligibility only.
