EDC Appoints New Members to its Advisory Council on Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility

(OTTAWA) – December 19, 2018

Export Development Canada (EDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Anita Ramasastry and Eduardo Bohórquez to the organization’s Advisory Council on Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR).

“EDC is proud to add two more distinguished individuals to the advisory council,” said Benoit Daignault, President and CEO at EDC and Chair of the Advisory Council. “Their backgrounds in anti-corruption and human rights will lend well to our mandate in providing guidance and support to Canadian companies in CSR.”

Ms. Ramasastry, Dean Emeritus of the University of Washington School of Law and a member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, is an expert in the fields of anti-corruption, commercial law, sustainable development and business and human rights. As Executive Director of the Mexican chapter of Transparency International, Mr. Bohórquez has led the development of various initiatives and tools aimed at linking the power of data to citizens’ actions to address corruption and impunity.

“Ms. Ramasastry and Mr. Bohórquez are joining five other prominent experts to help us achieve our goal of continually improving our CSR practices,” said Martine Irman, ExOfficio Member of the Advisory Council and Chair of the Board at EDC. “Business success for Canadian companies, including ours, has evolved and goes well beyond the numbers. It’s about doing the right things for the right reasons. Having the right team to provide guidance as we strive to improve is very helpful and we know our new members will add the value we need.”

EDC created the Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Council in 2001 with a mandate to provide advice and guidance on matters related to evolving best-in-class CSR practices. These practices are focused on ensuring operations protect the environment and people, conducting business with the highest level of integrity, building a supportive and inclusive workplace, and investing in our communities.
