In 2016, Canadian merchandise exports to Poland amounted to almost CAD $616 million, making it the 10th largest export market in the European Union. In the medium term, Canadian exports to Poland should get a boost with the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) coming into effect. Given the country’s sizable population of 38 million people and its growing middle class, interest in the Polish market is only likely to increase in the near future. EDC has historically seen most activity in the aerospace, agriculture, automotive and heavy truck, medical technology, and devices and computer hardware industries. In addition to these sectors, EDC sees strong opportunities for Canadian businesses in in the construction and infrastructure, extractive, environmental infrastructure, and waste water and power sectors. It should also be noted that Poland has an accommodative business environment, ranking 36th out of 138 in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report, making it an attractive location for investment.
