Argentina is one of the largest economies in Latin America with a GDP of more than USD540B in 2014. Argentina is rich in natural resources and is a major food producer thanks to its large scale agriculture and livestock industry. For many years, Argentina's domestic economy has been subject to government intervention, trade protectionism and foreign-exchange controls; however, in December 2015, Mauricio Macri became the country’s first center-right and market friendly president to win a free and fair election in modern history. Since his election into office, Macri has taken significant steps to liberalize the Argentine economy by lifting capital controls, floating the peso, negotiating debt payments with holdout bond creditors and removing numerous export controls.
