Export Development Canada’s (EDC) second annual Cleantech Export Week launches today, bringing together experts from across Canada’s clean technology sector to continue a national conversation about the opportunities open to Canadian cleantech companies willing to tap into demand outside our borders.

Canadians have developed a strong reputation as innovators in the cleantech space and technologies developed here have immense sales potential in the global market. Based on commitments under the Paris Agreement, the World Bank estimates global cleantech opportunities to be $23 trillion through 2030. Within that, there are vast opportunities Canadian companies and entrepreneurs cannot afford to overlook.

“For more than six years, EDC has been focusing on helping more companies in the cleantech space go, grow, and succeed in the global market. We know what incredible talent they have in developing innovative technologies, and we know the challenges they face in growing to capitalize on international opportunities,” said Carl Burlock, Senior Vice-President and Global Head of Financing and International Growth Capital at EDC. “Our goal with Cleantech Export Week is to discuss solutions to the biggest challenges Canadian cleantech firms face today and look at how successful companies in the industry made their way through.”

Canada has more than 850 companies in the cleantech sector at various stages of development, with total revenues exceeding $13 billion, and employing over 55,000 people.

EDC is the largest provider of financial solutions for cleantech companies looking to export internationally. Within the first three quarters of 2018, EDC facilitated close to $1.5 billion of business in the clean technology sector, serving more than 190 customers.

EDC helps these companies by providing financial solutions, market knowledge and the benefit of matchmaking introductions to some of the biggest projects and companies in the world.
