• Other factors that may be taken into consideration are: size of the economy, diversification of the economy, risk of natural disasters

Free trade agreements are intended to open up markets, reduce trade barriers and help build relationships among buyers, sellers and investors.

CETA

The Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) came into effect in September 2017, giving Canadian exporters access to the European market of approximately 500 million people.

USMCA (NAFTA)

The new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (formerly the North American Free Trade Agreement) will provide updated ground rules for North American trade in the 21st century.

EFTA

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is a goods-only agreement with an emphasis on tariff elimination that includes the countries of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

CPTPP

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership is an agreement between Canada and Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, which collectively represent 13.5 per cent of global GDP.
