Business environment in Paraguay

The Paraguayan economy is small and open, with an average growth rate of five per cent over the past decade, despite volatility during that period. This growth has been based mainly on the heavy dependence on agricultural production and foreign trade, particularly soybean, beef and electric power exports. Growth may be slightly hindered over the short term due to the slowdown in Brazil and Argentina, which account for 40 per cent of exports and are the main source of foreign direct investment in Paraguay. Major economic reforms over the past decade, such as the fiscal responsibility law and inflation targeting, have helped the country make significant progress at the macroeconomic level.
