While landlocked, the country is strategically located in the horn of Africa, and is one of the largest on the continent. Ethiopia has enjoyed significant economic growth in recent years, led by agriculture, services and construction. Ethiopia's economy remains dependent on the agriculture sector, mainly the export of coffee. Its fertile land lakes and rivers offer opportunities for expansion of irrigated agriculture, fish production and significant hydroelectric power generation. Existing trade with neighboring countries and Canada is limited, but we see good trade opportunities across a wide range of sectors that match Canadian capabilities. Ethiopia is a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa -COMESA-.
