Business environment in Morocco

Canada has an established trade relationship with Morocco. In 2020, Morocco normalized its relations with Israel. Morocco is an important market in terms of opportunities relative to other North African markets. The country is seen as a gateway to Africa, which has developed an environment for trade and investments, mostly in the western part of the continent. But Morocco’s economy is highly dependent on the performance of the agricultural sector (12% of gross domestic product (GDP) and 30% of the population), so on climate and water availability, as well as on demand from European Union, Morocco suffers significant social and regional disparities, recurrent discontent in certain regions and a high unemployment rate, especially among young people.
