Ghana has been an important trading partner for Canada in Sub-Saharan Africa, with relatively strong institutions, a multi-party government and an independent judiciary system that encourage trade and investment. The country is beginning to emerge from the economic crisis it experienced in 2022. The government continues to work with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a debt restructuring program, but debt sustainability remains a critical issue in the country.
