Tomislav Ivančić is an adviser to the FAO’s Markets and Trade Division on Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and Business and Human Rights (BHR) in the context of agricultural sourcing, with a focus on environmental and social risks upstream in low- and middle-income economies.

Previously, Tomislav worked as a business and human rights advisor to multinational companies while with Shift Project in London, and led the EU’s portfolio on Global Supply Chains and RBCat the European Commission in Brussels. He has also worked as an expert on decent work for international organizations including the ILO, UNDPand ITC.

Tomislav holds a MSc in Local Economic Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an MA in International Relations and European Studies from the Central European University (CEU), and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto. He is an alumni of Harvard Business School’s executive programme on social impact and global value chains and is currently completing a PhD on responsible sourcing and environmental and social risks in global trade and development at the Institute for Economics and Management (ISEG) at the University of Lisbon.

His recent publications range from looking at how agricultural cooperatives can onboard due diligence to reduce adverse environmental and human rights risks upstream in developing countries, to designing a business handbook on deforestation in agricultural supply chains (forthcoming, July 2023), among others.
