Joanne Tognarelli is managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Export Development Canada (EDC), leading our engagement across one of Canada’s key regions for trade and diversification. She was appointed to this role in 2026, reflecting EDC’s and the Government of Canada’s focus on Europe as a priority market to advance Canada’s market diversification and strengthen global trade.
Tognarelli joined EDC in 2001 after a working in telecommunications and has since held senior roles in corporate finance, commercial lending, insurance, business development and underwriting.
Before taking on her current role, she was vice-president of EDC’s Global Business Development and Global Corporate Partnerships teams, overseeing relationships across international markets and with key multinational partners.
Earlier in her career, Tognarelli headed EDC’s Corporate Lending International team, managing our international corporate loan portfolio to support global customers, multinationals with a presence in Canada and Canadian financial investors operating abroad.
She holds a master of business administration from the Telfer School of Business and a bachelor’s degree with a specialization in economics.
