Vivian Abdelmessih was appointed Chairperson of EDC’s Board on March 31, 2023, for a term of four years. Vivian is a highly experienced professional in the financial services sector, having spent more than 30 years working for RBC (Royal Bank of Canada) and TD (Toronto Dominion Bank) in Canada and the US.
In her final role as Chief Risk Officer, Canadian Banking, Auto Finance, Insurance and Global Wealth Management, TDBG, she was responsible for the strategic management of risk across all of TD’s Canadian Businesses with oversight over all risk types. During her career, she has also held senior management positions in the front office and key operational roles, driving strategy, growth and transformation. She is well-versed in Financial and Capital markets, with diverse experience across a broad array of industries and segments. Vivian has also served on numerous corporate and not-for-profit boards, including First Nations Bank of Canada, The Canadian Business Growth Fund and Greenwood College, and served as past Chair of TD’s Women in Leadership Committee and United Way campaigns.
Vivian currently sits as the Lead Independent director of Scientific Games and chairs the Audit and Risk committee. She also sits on the Advisory Board of The Equity Opportunity: Advancing Women’s Economic Well-being, launched by LEAP|Pecaut Centre for Social Impact to address long-standing barriers preventing women from achieving full economic well-being.
Vivian holds an Honors BA in Political Science and English from the University of Toronto and an MBA from The Richard Ivey School of Business and completed the Wharton Business School Advanced Risk Management Executive Education program. She is a graduate of the Rotman School of Management Institute of Corporate Directors and holds the ICD.D designation.
