Export Development Canada (EDC) proudly celebrates a decade of regional presence and successful business partnerships in Colombia.

EDC’s representation opened its doors in Bogotá in 2013, two years after the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement was ratified. Since then, EDC has played an important role in promoting and supporting trade relations between the two countries, which has dramatically increased over the years. Last year, two-way merchandise trade reached $3.2 billion, to the benefit of both economies.

The presence in Colombia has enabled EDC to offer tailored solutions to exporters while both countries tap into each other's strengths, expertise and demands. With a focus on investing in sectors such as infrastructure, agri-food, cleantech and energy, bilateral trade and investment have the potential to vastly increase. The office has facilitated business transactions and connections, resulting in over 100 Canadian companies establishing a presence in the Colombian market and more than 320 customers served annually.

"Our shared commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 and investing in sustainability is among the factors contributing to the success of this partnership, which in turn will support the growth of both our economies. As we advance EDC’s 2030 strategy to make Canada a global leader through trade, we will continue to work with our partners in Colombia to ensure exporters are well-equipped to take on new business opportunities and reach new customers in this key Latin American market.” Mairead Lavery, EDC President and CEO

“We are delighted to commemorate 10 years of achievements and partnerships in Colombia. Our success is due in large part to the commitment of our regional team, as well as our financial, private sector and federal partners, who have been instrumental in the positive impact we are making beyond our borders. Through this milestone, I look forward to another decade of supporting the growth and prosperity of Canadian companies in the Colombian market.” Tamara Fathi, EDC Chief Representative in Colombia

"Celebrating 10 years of EDC's presence in Colombia is a very important milestone, especially during this year when we commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Colombia. This reaffirms that trade relations have been an important driver of our relationship and we are confident that in the future we will continue to promote trade and investment that will benefit both countries and strengthen our ties." Marianick Tremblay, Ambassador of Canada to Colombia
