Business environment in Indonesia

Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, is a member of the G20 and a powerhouse within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. With more than 270 million inhabitants, the country is Canada’s largest trading partner and top investment destination in the region. Indonesia’s growing middle class provides ample opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. These opportunities are in sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure and cleantech, as the government rebalances the commodity-reliant economy. Despite challenges, the business environment continues to significantly improve as witnessed in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index and growing multinational interest in the country. To succeed in Indonesia, Canadian companies must be prepared to invest time and resources to develop the necessary local relationships and conduct strong due diligence prior to entering the market. Export Development Canada (EDC) serves Canadian companies in Indonesia through our branch office in Singapore.
